Warping by Change of Texture Coordinates

This time is warping implemented as processing the whole bitmap pixel by pixel. I'm wondering if wouldn't be better to represent bitmaps as textures and warping implement as change of texture coordinates. What's your opinion, is it a good idea? Wouldn't be there any restrictions such as image proportions? (I hope you understand me, sorry for my English...)
